Improve Your Appearance with Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure performed in-office to boost collagen production and improve the appearance of skin surface irregularities such as acne scarring, fine lines and other skin irregularities. Dermatology of Athens has chosen Skin Pen specifically because of its safety and proven results. Skin pen is the first FDA cleared microneedling device, works for all skin types, and provides effective results with relatively little downtime.

How Does It Work?

After a topical numbing cream is applied to the face, the pen is applied to face or other treatment area, with minimal discomfort. The device causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your body’s natural wound healing process, while minimizing cellular damage. The result is effective remodeling of scar tissue, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.

What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Studies have proven that microneedling helps to decrease the appearance of scarring and skin irregularities with as little as 3 treatments. The microinjury caused by the procedure stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, proteins which help our skin to maintain a youthful appearance.

Procedure and Post-Procedure Expectations Procedure time is approximately 20-30 min and is performed in office by our experienced Physician Assistant. Patients should arrive 30 min prior to appointment time for application of a topical numbing cream to minimize any slight discomfort. After the procedure, most patients experience redness, warmth (similar to a sun burn sensation) and pinpoint bleeding (very minimal). Typically within 48 hours, most noticeable redness resolves. After the procedure you should plan not to apply any cosmetics for at least 24 hours and we will provide you with a healing gel to sooth and nourish the skin.

How Much Does It Cost?

Cost is determined by area treated and number of treatments, but in general, most are around $350-$500 per treatment. Call to request an appointment to determine the type and number of treatments that would give you the best results. Relative to other procedures which provide similar results, such as laser and chemical peel procedures, Skin Pen is less expensive.
